Goodreads – 5 Tips for blogging newbies

Goodreads is a fun social media website to track the books you’ve read and want to read. So a good tool for bloggers who track their reading and want to share it with their audience. These are 5 tips I’ve found that helped me or that definitely sounded interesting.

1.       Personalize

Make your profile something to come back to. So add some information about yourself that you aren’t uncomfortable about to share with other people. You can add your blog and a picture if you want. A mini guide below to get to the settings on Goodreads.

2.       Widget

Goodreads provides some fun widgets you can embed in your blog. There’s a couple of types that share your bookshelves, favorite quotes or your reading challenge. You can also find in your account settings, but another tab.(See Photo) You can copy the HTML into your homepage or wherever you want it placed on your website.

3.       Groups

There are several groups on Goodreads. If you find groups in your niche it’s always a good idea to join and to be active there. Do not spam your website there, most people won’t like it. If you interact with relevant content than people will often click through to your profile. So If you’ve got your profile edited with your blog, than people might click on it. You can find groups here:

4.       Be active

Try to be active. You don’t have log in constantly, but at least once week. A bit more can’t hurt, if you’ve got a blog about books only, than Goodreads is one of your most important social media websites. Interact with other people. Follow important people (book bloggers, youtubers, favorite writers). You can try adding them as friends, but the most famous ones have probably reached their maxed friends capacity on Goodreads. Befriend people you know or genuinely like. You can try serial friending. But I personally think you might not connect with the right audience and not everyone likes it, so it’s up to you. Under the tab community there’s lots of ways to interact to other people: Quizzes, discussions,…

5.       Stay up to date

Goodreads gives you lots of options to stay up to date about the newest books and your favorite authors. Under the tab Browse there’s lots of options: Recommendations based on your books, the latest news and interviews, the Choice Awards,…

You can also subscribe to their newsletter. If you’ve got lots of books added and filled in your account, then you’ll receive a personalized newsletter

I hope these tips will be helpful for you.😄
