Visiting Schildehof in Schilde, Belgium(Schilde part one of three)
There’s some national traveling on my bucket list and one of them is visiting all of the cities in the Province of Antwerp in Belgium.
Why traveling nationally? Well, with the current pandemic, it's probably safer to visit local towns and cities. But don't blindly follow me in doing this, I'm not a doctor and I don't know what the current situation is in your country right now. But if it's an option for you, then you'll find lots of hidden gems that way and it's often less crowded. Although we take every precaution when we go out, it feels a bit safer when you don't have to face big crowds.
As I didn’t know which city to take first, I made use of this website. It's a website you can use to randomly select items of a list. Every time that I want to do some traveling, I will use this website and then I’ll prepare a visit to that place. That way it's a bit of an adventure.😊
This time it generated the town Schilde. The province of Antwerp has got three jurisdictions. Schilde is located in the Jurisdiction Antwerp. I know...Antwerp in Antwerp. Wait until we get to Antwerp in Antwerp in Antwerp or Antwerp in Antwerp in Antwerp in Antwerp (Yes, it exists!), that's a case of Inception there.😂(Referencing the movie)
It is a town that has two
submunicipalities: Schilde and ‘s-Gravenwezel. I will probably have to do this one
in three parts as it’s big and I have to
plan these trips to go on with my husband and son. And as most parents know,
sometimes you have to go home early. My 4-month old son has got some problems with
reflux and he gets a bit fussy at the end of the day. So I have to see what I
can finish in a limited time, keeping in mind I don’t have car and need public
transport to get home.
But I’m
going to aim to make this a three-part series. The first part I did this week
was visiting a park in the part of Schilde called Schildehof.
It’s in located in the South of the town.
It's a beautiful park and definitely worth it to visit with kids. But some parts, as I’ve experienced, were a bit difficult to use with a stroller because of cobblestone roads in some parts. But overall a fun experience.

The road to the park
At the entrance of the park, looking to the remains of the castle. For some reason the town decided to break down the castle in 1954. I haven't found the reason why though.😞
